The Telephone
History of the Telephone
During the 1870s, two inventors named Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray both independently designed inventions that can be used for communication through wires. They had a legal battle over the idea of the telephone, which Bell eventually won. His invention was patented in 1876. A little later after his idea was patented he created his invention. The first telephone he created is very different from the occasional cell phone we use in current times. Alexander Graham Bell used to be a teacher for the deaf before this invention. Bell created the telephone when he was experimenting with a different invention called the telegraph. Towards the end of 1880, there were over 49,000 telephones in people’s homes. There were many different prototypes of the telephone and it has evolved so much into what we use in our everyday life.
